Lorne - Devlog

Week 1 - Day 1 The idea for this game started with me playing around with a tutorial about planetary gravity in Unity. We decided that it would be a cool mechanic to add to an FPS and the initial idea for the game was that you were an astronaut defending your spaceship from attacking aliens.

Week 1 - Day 4 At this point I was struggling with getting the gravity implemented and so I decided to take a break from programming to work on UI.

Week 1 - Day 7 By the end of the week I had sketched out plenty of ideas for the UI but didn’t have any mechanics to go with them, I wanted to get the gravity working first before I moved on to other mechanics so I got back to that.

Week 2 - Day 3 At this point we had the gravity working. Once we were able to move around in the game the way we wanted to we realized that the level was too small and cramped and we needed to make the play area 10x bigger. This put quite a bit of extra work on the people creating assets but the game wouldn’t have worked otherwise.

Week 2 - Day 7 At this point we only had one type of enemy behavior but multiple models for enemies. I started setting up different movement, attacking and spawning mechanics. We ended up with a lizard  enemy that doesn’t move but can shoot at you, a bee enemy that moves aimlessly and can’t be killed but drops heath when you shoot it, and a squid enemy that hurts you when you touch it and only moves towards you when you attack the bees.

Week 3 - Day 4 At this point we had set up the enemy types and just needed to balance them so that the game had the right difficulty. I also started setting up my UI.

Week 3 - Day 7 On the final day of the game we started pulling everything together and finished off any small things that were left over. Lol I don’t know
